Mini Language Lesson: Portuguese

For those of you who might be traveling to Brazil this winter or in the future, I thought I’d post a language guide to help you along in your quest for vegetarian fare in a meat-loving country. Here are some useful phrases:

I am a vegetarian
Sou vegetariano.(man) Sou vegetariana.(woman)

I do not eat meat
Eu não como carne.

Is there any vegetarian option on the menu?
Existe alguma opção vegetariana no cardápio?

I do not eat fish
Eu não como peixe

Additionally, here are some other words you should probably be on the lookout for when perusing menus:

Seafood – frutos do mar

Shrimpcamarão

Chickengalinha, frango

Beefcarne de boi

Porkcarne de porco

Broth – caldo, sopa
