La Caravella

While we’re on the topic of the Amalfi Coast, I must make mention of La Caravella. La Caravella, by now, is a legendary restaurant in Amalfi itself, which in its heyday, was frequented by celebs like Fellini and Warhol. Today, it is touted as one of the most romantic restaurants around by tourists and locals alike (it was recommended to me by a taxi driver!). The formality of service lets you know that you are in for a special evening from the moment you walk in and onwards. The small size of each of the adjoining dining rooms makes for a very intimate experience. And of course, like any good restaurant that celebrate its local cuisine, the menu at La Caravella is completely seasonal.

And speaking of the menu, you won’t find too many vegetarian options spelled out for you. Instead, your best bet is to explain your dietary needs to your server, who, along with the chef, will go out of his way to meet your needs in the most flavorful way possible. Of course, dishes will vary at the whim of the chef, but you can expect to see some pasta dishes, local cheeses grilled in lemon leaves, and of course, some of the most delightful gelato in the world! My absolute at La Caravella: Don’t skimp on the wine.
